Boat Yard Lost my anchor

So I had a boat shipped to San Diego and was trying to find the anchor on the boat today, but could not (literally spent two hours going through every nook and cranny).  I talked to the boat yard and they looked around the yard and could not find it.  I called the shipping company and the driver had a clear description of unloading the anchor and where he put it with the yard at their request.  The anchor was removed from the boat for transport and put on the back of the truck.  The boat yard has had the boat for a few weeks to do some work to it and when we went to the boat today that's when we couldn't find the anchor.  I will talk to the boat yard manager tomorrow, but this sucks because the Anchor is probably about $800 bucks to replace for a comparable model.  I think the boat yard owes me a new anchor, but wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone else had any thoughts.

There's always insurance if the boat yard won't comply.

It could have been stolen from the boat yard.  What are the policies of leaving stuff there?
Maybe they have CCTV cameras (most do) that may shed some light on it.
My experience in leaving my toys at places is at your own risk unless something else is arranged with the business.
In the end, as was mentioned, insurance or maybe the yard will cut you a deal on a new one to make it right.

I’m not sure if this is applicable, but most car dealerships/repair shops have “Care, Custody and Control” insurance and so should I would expect this yard to have something similar.  A boat without an anchor seems to me to be like a car without brakes meaning its loss would coverable unlike perhaps the theft of a CD or some other personal property left on board.  So if you have a notarized affidavit from the delivery guy (better would be if the delivery paperwork specifically mentioned the anchor along with the boat and shows an employee’s signature confirming receipt of both), their insurance should pressure them to make a serious effort to locate the anchor and make good the loss if it can’t be found.

The yard found the anchor this morning after doing a more exhaustive search.  It was in a storage container buried underneath some other items.  We were able to put it on the boat today and get the boat into our new slip in San Diego.

Humbly disagree.  We've saved up $1.3M (After buying the boat), taken a ton of classes, (I help teach sailing instruction).  We are spending time right now familiarizing and outfitting the boat to get it ready to go.

Well see, the boat holds the bikes when we're not riding... and we keep the boat in drydock since we're not sailing yet, so I need to drive to work in the meantime... and we had plans to be fishing for food, so we sold the fridge but since the boat is on land I need to eat out every day for work lunch.. and then..

 Yep, an employe thought you had a nice anchor, he hid it away hoping it would not be missed or it would just blow over. He would have collected it when the bosses weren't looking.

The great thing about something with a few years on it, you probably won't lose a DIME if/when you ever give it back to the market.

That was the thought process on our end.  Find a well cared for older model, outfit it out how we want it, and then sell it after we finish our plans.

No not yet, we just had the mast and rigging put up by the boat yard and got her put into a slip this week.  First project is to clean all the road grime off from the move.
