Title: Bikes for short women?
Post by: Exhale on September 03, 2014, 07:27:34 PM
Hi everyone,

I've never had good luck with bikes. However, as a proper Mustachian, I'm willing to give it a go. I'm looking for a bike that would fit a 4'11" woman with a curvy body (read: need a comfy bike seat!). Any recs for bikes that will work for someone my shape and height?

Thanks,
Exhale

I'm 4'11" (okay, 4' 10 1/2") and short in the leg.  My Giant Cypress is a 15 inch frame and it is a little big for me, I wish it was a 14 inch frame.  Also, it's a men's bike, and the bar that goes across is just a bit to tall for me to straddle, which can be annoying getting on the thing.  The seat is just okay for me, and I am the opposite of curvy.  But you can always swap out the seat, right?

I am also 4'11"! Don't assume that you need a super-padded bike seat. It can make things worse! Anyway, you can swap out the saddle.

I have a Cannondale Q6 with the smallest size frame and am very happy with it. It's a hybrid bike, which is a good choice for most people, that I bought about four years ago (so they've probably replaced it with something different but similar--ask a bike shop). It was about $500. I remember looking at a Specialized in a similar price range and similar size.

I have also ridden a 24" girl's bike, which is certainly an option, but I ride much faster and more easily on a proper women's bike. Good luck!

I have an xtracycle radish cargo bike.  I switched the seat post for a shorter one.  So that's an option to look at the seat post and possibly switch it out.  I'm 5 ft nothin.
