Title: Bike Commute to Downtown Raleigh, NC
Post by: AnotherEngineer on August 09, 2019, 06:12:47 PM
We are considering relocating from the PNW to Raleigh with COL as a factor. Where should we live that is affordable and bikeable to downtown?

I'm looking to bike and/or bus commute to downtown Raleigh. It seems that the bike network is still in development. I prefer to bike, but like the bus as an option. I'm love the idea of being 1-2 miles from downtown, but wouldn't mind a 5 mile commute if it was mostly paths/trails. We are car-light with three young kids. Additionally, we would love to walk to schools, parks and essentials; we see diversity as a benefit; we would like "good enough" schools; and we have a tolerance to the (perception of) crime. Zillow (searching for 3 beds, <$350k) points us to East Raleigh between Downtown and I-440. Any thoughts on this area? Any other areas we should look at with our criteria? I've searched the forums and found mostly threads about driving to the research triangle from Cary.
