Title: Best way to shop insurance (home, auto, etc)
Post by: surfer349 on April 07, 2022, 09:44:37 PM
Looking for advice here. I've bounced around a few different home insurance companies over the last few years, but always insured autos through USAA.

Is there any recommendation for best method to shop around again? Its been a few years, but last time I entered my info into one of those aggregator websites, I ended up getting call and email spammed for weeks.

How can I just look at policies with High Deductible bare bones and shop around?

You can't, those aggregators are not competitive.

Just get quotes on a half dozen websites and pick the best. Yeah you might get a couple emails about your quotes, just unsubscribe and that's the end of it.

I remember similar issues when using a one-stop shop site...I have been more successful with picking two or three companies and then going to their sites directly for a quote.  Also -- when I set up auto insurance recently it was necessary to call to speak with an agent in order to complete the process.  I remember that it ended up being necessary to ask them explicitly if there were any more services that they could remove from the policy until I had verified that the policy was as cheap as it could possibly get (i.e. until it matched the quote that I had gotten on the website).  Good luck!

I usually hit up the websites of the big sites for quotes then also check with a local independent agency to have them quote against the smaller companies that don't blast out ads. From there it's time to sit down and compare the quotes since they all will differ a bit and choose the winner.
