Best Introductory Investing Guides for Total Newbies
« on: August 03, 2014, 02:08:39 AM »
Hi! So, after reading all of MMM and poking around on this forum, I've become convinced that at the very least, I should get some index funds. The issue is, I have ZERO financial background, so all the terms being thrown around in even these "basic" discussions make me feel pretty in over my head. (For example, I've only just figured out what dividends are, and I still feel like I don't understand them much.)

I'm trying to read articles and look up definitions for terms, but it dawned on me that maybe I could speed my self-education by asking you guys for your easiest, most basic book/article/site recommendations. I've got a stellar library nearby and would be happy to pick up some "index funds made easy" books. I've seen a few recommended online, but who better to ask about resources to teach burgeoning Mustachians than you guys?

Any recommendations?

Burton Malkiel - a random walk down Wall Street and if you want to go more in depth, John Bogle, common sense on mutual funds.

Classics, both.

The Investor's Manifesto, probably the best high level overview of everything.

My fiancé read walk down Wall Street, and I'm reading it now. VERY readable for a newbie! :)

My favorite newbie book:

http://www.amazon.com/Think-Invest-Like-Warren-Buffett/dp/0071809953

It's an easy short read that is well written and relevant.
