Best DIY bike trailer hitch?
« on: December 06, 2014, 09:11:51 PM »
I have a great bike trailer sketched out in my head, but I'm having analysis paralysis with deciding what the best bike hitch is.   Do I go with a seat post mount, chain stay, qr skewer?    Then what's the best option after that for actual components.

I don't have a welder so it would be nice to go with a bolt together solution.    Instructables has a no weld hitch, but it uses qr couplings from air hoses, I'm not sure how that would do with a 200lbs load.

Who has a solution?

DH built / welded an aluminum trailer, but then bought the hitch.   The actual hitch to use depends on your bike.  We have used both the seat post and the "normal" hitch, for different towing needs and bikes.

The cost to buy a hitch, versus make, and the quality difference was an easy "buy" decision for him.

Do you mean the burley ones?    Interesting idea.   I have a cheap schwinn kids trailer that's broken into countless pieces over the years.   I'm not a huge fan of their hitch, I'll have to hit a bike shop and check out the burley setup.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
