Best Credit Card?
« on: May 14, 2016, 11:22:18 AM »
I'm sure this topic is embedded in the forum somewhere but after searching through several pages, I was not able to find anything. Does anyone have any good info on best rewards credit card? We pay it off in full every month but figure that maximizing free stuff can't be a bad thing.

Thanks!

Well, the problem is, the answer is that it depends.

Do you travel? Stay in hotels?

Where is most of your spending done? Gas, groceries? Do you shop at big name grocery stores, or little local places?

I guess I should have specified that: We probably buy 4-6 airline tickets a year, stay in a hotel once a year, $140 a month in gas, $400 a month in groceries at Sprouts (Trader Joes type place), we eat out more than we should and we're having a baby in a month.

If you spend around 5k annually on groceries use the amex blue cash preferred

For gas we use the bofa cash rewards bc it pays 3.3% CB to bofa checking holders.

I churn all other cards for travel. Maximizes everything this way.

Yeah I'm super excited for the new Costco card. It's gonna rock.

I +1 the Blue Cash Preferred for high grocery spending. I also +1 the nerd wallet rec- they have very well put together articles.

If you plan to just get one card for all of your spending, you'll get between 2-6% back.  If you use all of your spending to hit sign up bonuses, you'll get 10-80% back.  It depends if you are willing to grab a new card every few months.
