Vanguard UK investment options? Advice please
« on: January 21, 2018, 05:50:56 AM »
Hi all,

Very new to the movement, still reading articles on the main site, some advice for a newbie, please!

I see Vanguard launched in the UK a couple of years ago, Have any UK Mustachians used this? or would you recommend another investing platform?

If you have used it, what funds do you have invested in? As to my (admittedly amateur), investing eyes look different from what MMM recommends/talks about

Thanks all

never give up

Hi Poozay. Take a look at the Uk tax board. It’s not just about tax. VG and basic investment advice is talked about there.

Thanks for this, I will check that out now.
Vanguard UK offers stocks & shares ISA (tax-free wrapper) which is tax-free up to £20,000 invested per year, through this you can access the equity funds to invest in. This is what I a thinking of doing, one for me and one for my partner. But the funds offered are different, I will see the tax board now though, thanks!

Zola.

I invest in Vanguard LifeStrategy 80% via HL (hl.co.uk). I don't go with Vanguard directly as I then I would be only limited to their products.

I transferred all my ISAs into Vanguard when it opened here. Only bummer is they don't do a Lifetime ISA. It was a simple process (not many steps) but took a long time (a month?) for the money to come over.

If you're a beginner and want a good default choice, open an ISA with Vanguard and put everything into either LifeStrategy 100 (all stocks, more volatile) or LifeStrategy 80 (80% stocks, 20% bonds - less volatile, potentially lower returns) and just keep chucking money into it. In the future you may want to optimise a bit when you learn more (and you can always transfer to another provider then), but for initial effort to return ratio, it really can't be beaten. It's what I do now and I've been hanging around here for years!
