On the beach preferably. Can be out of the US. Budget probably 2-3k.

Outer Banks North Carolina? Somewhere in Florida?

Can you get international tickets and still have much of a budget left?

Do you want relaxation or party?

What is the starting point? What time of year? How long?

I'd be very wary of the Outer Banks and a lot of FLA just now.

Depends on where you're going from. We're in Oregon, so Hawaii was a great cheap option. Sign up for Scott's Cheap flights and watch for deals to come up! We opted for an AirBnB and renting a car through Turo. We did 10 days in Maui and spent tons on food and booze, no flight points at all, and spend $3200. But if you're going from the East Coast, there are different answers there.

Also depends if you're planning on trying for kids soon, in which case, being aware of active, inactive, and zika free zones is a good idea!

Wife and I just did our honeymoon a couple months ago on Tybee Island, Georgia. Only ~$800 for the whole week in the quaintest little AirBNB cottage just a couple blocks from the beach. Drove down so we could also bring our bikes. Very walkable/bikeable island, and a half hour or so drive from Savannah for some historic city sightseeing. We loved it and are extremely glad we didn't go international and upscale like many of our friends' honeymoons.

Agree that it depends on where you live. Sign up for Scott's deals and Travelzoo! There was an all inclusive with flights within your price range recently to Cancun from Detroit.

Seems to be a trend these days to pick a spot and get friends and relatives to donate online to defray cost.

You can get to Bora Bora for under $1K.  Hard to do much better than that for a honeymoon.

Costa Rica would be doable on that budget. And close to the same time zone, which is nice for a short trip.

+1 to staying in a similar time zone.  5 days isn't long enough to make jet lag worth it, IMHO.

Where are you flying from?
I found flights just under $2k, and that seemed cheap.  But the flight was 40 hours long once all the connections were in.

I've heard great things about Scott's Deals. A guy I know just did a week in Spain with his wife for under $2k. Another website that has great deals is Cheap Caribbean. They have a lot of air plus hotel packages. They tend to be all inclusive and resort type hotels so if you don't like that it might not be for you but they are almost all beachy.

+1 to the Travelzoo and CheapCaribbean suggestions. Also Groupon Travel. Sign up for their email lists. From Houston you should be able to get a nice deal on a 5 day all inclusive in the Caribbean/Mexico/Central America in your price range.

Dude if you're in H-town hop on a cheap southwest flight to Playa Del Carmen.  Normally you can book a straignt flight from HOU To CUN on southwest for $59 to $99 without even looking to hard.  Mexico has some of the best beaches and water in the world.  Also I highly recommend Hotel Xcaret.  The place just opend and it's amazing.  We've been twice since last December and will be going back in January and June of next year.  The good news is you're a ways out from your honeymoon and if you wanted to get into credit card churning you could totally go for free with just signing up for two or 3 cards.....  If you paid for a vactaion to Hotel Xcaret with flights and all it would be under 2k.

It also depends on how you want to travel.  We did a four-country two-week summer European honeymoon from the US (lots of beaches) for under 3K, including flights, by staying in cheap, but nice hostels/pensions (free breakfast) and eating mostly cheap local food.

From Houston, check out Belize.  It's a short flight and a 1 hour time change.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
