bar fridge
« on: December 25, 2013, 07:48:55 PM »
HI,

We are on solar power and thinking of upgrading to a bar fridge from coolers.  Any recommendations on bar fridges.  The most energy efficient ones seem to be from Australia.  Can't find a really high efficiency bar fridge in the USA or CAN.  Obviously being on solar efficiency is a critical issue for us.  Thanks.  Ann

I saw a pretty thoughtful (as in, made me go 'hmmmm') vid on youtube - buying an old, run down RV and stripping it.

IOW - why not an RV three-way fridge?

I've read good things about... hmm. "Whynter dual-zone DC-powered fridge/freezer" but I guess they are cooler-ish.

There are Koolatron ones but they are thermo-electric (?) rather than evapourative (I think that terminology is correct) - and hence aren't really settable, there's no thermostat to control just how cold they get.

Thank you for your suggestions.. appreciate it...

Learning how much power these fridges take.. certainly makes me NOT want some of the huge ones we see advertised!  crazy.  Rather bike to the store more often!
