Balance Transfers and Student Loans
« on: November 11, 2015, 10:38:44 PM »
I keep receiving these checks from my credit card servicers telling me about balance transfers where I would pay 0% APR on up to $5,000 for the first 18 months.  I'm not leaning towards doing this but could one actually use this to defer paying anything on a portion of their student loans and pay off the balance in full right before interest starts accruing?

There's almost always a 3% fee upfront, so based on your signature about SoFi your rate arbitrage is about 1.4% if you amortize the 3% over 18 months. Up to you whether that is worth it.
