Should I bring this up?
« on: December 06, 2023, 02:43:19 PM »
This might be OT, but I wanted the opinion of strangers because I can't ask people close to me.

There is an old bookshelf in my home office. It had lots of old papers and stuff collecting dust. I asked my SO if I could look through everything and get rid of anything that isnt useful. She agreed and told me there was nothing personal left on the bookshelf. So I started looking through the stuff, and most of it was old veterinary receipts, old job offer letters, etc, etc, etc...

Well, I come across an old notebook and I flip through it to see if I can throw it out. Inside are journal entries from years and years ago from my SO, from back when we first started dating. I'm not a snooper, and I respect people's privacy... normally. However, as I am closing the notebook since its not something I should be reading, I see an entry with my name in it. Its part of a longer journal entry, but I cant help but read the paragraph about me. Its like 4 sentences, and takes 10 seconds to read. Its very positive and endearing and makes me smile. I then close the journal and put it back on the shelf.  I dont read anything else in it.

The paragraph I read really brought back some warm and fuzzy feeling from our courtship, and I wanted to talk to my SO about this, but... obviously it was in a journal and who knows what else is in there that might be embarassing or whatever. I want to tell her about what I read because it was such a nice read, but... Im afraid she might get mad at me.

So... is what I did wrong? Should I discuss with her or just pretend like this never happened?

This is cute. It sounds like you've been together for a number of years. If that's the case just tell her the truth, she's not going to judge you for it. It will probably lead to a sweet moment between you.

I would personally tell her exactly as you've told us.

Update: I told her pretty much what I said here. She was a little embarassed but took it in good humor. The only bad thing to come from it is we ended up staying up too late looking at pictures and reminiscing, and we are all tired today. Thanks for the advice.
