Unlock Broken Window Lock?
« on: July 02, 2014, 03:18:54 PM »
So I have a broken lock/latch on the only window that opens in my bedroom. The lock is stuck in the locked position and the fasteners for it are on the inside of the window frame. AKA, step one to fixing the window is getting it open.

I've been calling/emailing back and forth with the manufacturer all day and their only advice at this point is to call a window repair company and have them do it for me. That'll be at least a $100 service charge + parts. Apparently they also no longer use this particular latch so I'll also need to find a different, but compatible one. Fun.

Google has proved surprisingly unhelpful in figuring out how to open the window. All tutorials begin with, "With the window in the open position, do xyz." Here are some photos of it.

No good suggestions except maybe using a trim prybar to get the face of the lock away from the frame and try fishing for the mechanism.
