How do we qualify? Are there some disqualifications? What do you think it takes to be called Mustachian?

Analyzing your choices and not just doing whatever the general population is doing because that's the "normal" way.

That's all it takes IMO. Others are more stringent.

Agreed. To me it is mostly about forming your own opinions and values, you don't have to go against conventional wisdom, but test it. (Example-conventional wisdom says a house is always a good investment)

agree with all those above but to me it's also about:

-Living life of constant optimization and frugality
-examining what actually is necessary to live a happy life and trimming the fat
-and not following a crowd and giving into temptation on things that hurt these first goals

Well first you need to get an official Mustachian Learner's License. Then comes graduating from the Mustachian University. Then the advanced practice credentials and official Mustachian Practicioner Certification after completing post-graduate training.

Awesome... I'm in! Belonging helps me feel better, but some days it is hard to be unconventional, even at home. Today I took some flack from DH for getting an electric cargo bike instead of a car. I don't even understand. I think replacing the old car with the new bike was one of the reasons we have been able to retire, as it costs only pennies to run. He can still drive our remaining conventional vehicle, a nice older pickup truck we need for the farm chores.

It's comforting to know I am part of something bigger than myself. Thank you. I hope the Mustachian Practitioner Certification comes in the mail soon, so I can frame it and proudly hang it on the wall ;-)

I know this is the traditional way of doing things, but I find myself questioning the value of the Mustachian University in today's political climate ;)

My definition was mentioned above: primarily that you constantly evaluate, measure, and optimize, and that you analyze what truly matters to your life- rather than accept what others assume is best or are doing themselves.

In my opinion: No. There are sufficient conditions (many of them), but no necessary ones.
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.
