HVAC Tune Up
« on: December 01, 2013, 12:27:00 PM »
Hi Everyone,

In the fall/spring seasons, I get a lot of mailers regarding tune ups for either AC units or furnaces.  Is it worthwhile or necessary to do one of these tune ups every couple years?  My units are from 2007 and both seem to perform well.  Am I doing any damage by not having the tuned up or checked each year?  I am just afraid that these services are just a way for them to get in the door and then point out more expensive repairs.  Please let me know your thoughts.  Thanks!

We have a local company that we trust do them yearly, sometimes twice (spring/fall).  Yes, they can catch things, for good or bad, and keep things clean, for a tiny bit of efficiency.  I'm sure some will say you can DIY, but that's not in my realm.

If things go to pot on the hottest/coldest day of the year, you're usually at the top of the list for a repair visit.

I would check with friends/neighbors before I'd go with the big guys, though.  We've run through a few companies who will send out just anyone.  Our current company has two techs, and they know our system.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
