We are in the market for a new unit. The first quote was $8,000, which is about $3,000 more than two households we know paid last year. The company claims the trade war with China has caused the prices to jump. It's a good, local company with rave reviews, so I'm inclined to believe them. We will be getting a second quote of course.

lol - that's funny. The trade war with China did not cause the cost of HVACs to rise 3k in a year. Do yourself a favor and get three more quotes from reputable companies.
