Any Mustachians work in Pharma?
« on: February 07, 2016, 11:23:48 AM »
I just finished reading the thread with incomes and didn't see anyone mention they worked in Pharma.  I know there's a law thread.

Anyone here work for a pharmaceutical company?  Have you found your industry to be mustachian friendly so to speak?

My department conducts clinical trials.  But as you can imagine working in a fairly large sized company we have a multitude of functional areas...from contracts and budgets to regulatory to commercial.  I'd like to hear from others who work in (or used to work) this industry.

Not in Pharma directly, but the contract service laboratory I work for has "15 of the top 15 pharmaceutical companies" as clients, and probably at least 60% of our work is tied to pharma clients.

Nice thing about working so closely with Big Pharma is that for better or worse, the industry is quite robust.  In 2008, our business GROWTH was essentially 0% but it didn't go down at all, and growth picked up again in spades around 2013-14 as things bounced back.

Any true Mustachian
will have limited use for the pharma industry, but as a whole, it's not going anywhere.

Pharma industry is the same as doctors. You don't really wish to be their customer, but you know that almost certainly sooner or later you'll have to be.

I work in pharma R&D department. It's a well payed job and compared to lawyers and doctors not terribly stressful. Whether you waste all that money on some frivolous nonsense is entirely up to you. It's not a type of job where you are expected to spend a lot of money on appearances.
