I am NOT a golfer, but have walked/ridden many courses.
History:
We live 2 miles from a country course designed in 1926. From the golfers in the family (husband and sons) it is a well designed course and about 10 years ago, attention made it great.
It costs $35 a round, I think, as they are members. Member ship is $1000/yr. Like I said, it’s out in the country. Our oldest bought a house on the course, 3 bdrm, 2 bath, for $169,000, built in 1979. So not the fanciest course. It is land that looks like it could have been farm land when it was designed, and was easier to make a golf course than clear the trees along the 2 creeks.
Our 2 sons, when they were 10, played in a jr league in the summer, which allowed them to play in many private courses all over Ohio, I think the oldest even won one. He played in high school and college. When he was 20 or so he talked about turning pro and I remember having a talk with him, discussing expenses. He wasn’t ‘great’ but could be, but wanted him to know we couldn’t finance this dream. He decided he really liked IT work and always being chosen as his employer’s (hospital) representative when vendors would need one. Now, I think he’s pretty active in a couple of leagues, wining a few tournaments.
The 2 boys and their Dad take various golf outings. San Diego, when the youngest was in the Navy, and most memorable when they went to SE Ohio. They went the day after that guy that had all those wild animals, set them loose, then killed himself. Oh the thoughts that were going through my head, picturing them all being eaten by a lion on a golf course! When the Ronald Reagan was in HA, our sailor son called us from the golf course, there was some siren going off. He later found out it was a tsunami warning! I think it was 2012.
So, golf has made for some interesting stories!
Our 2 sons, maybe par golf or 1 or 2 less, always from the Blue tees. TheHusbandHalf, not so good white tees, but probably because he was not given the advantages this sons were. Mom, I haven't hit from the blues for years. I ALWAYS use the tips!
The 2 boys got custom clubs 6-7 years ago, and TheHusbandHalf did 2 years ago, with retirement plans. They all say they’ve made a difference. I told my husband, every time you don’t hit the ball right you’re going to say it’s because you don’t have nice clubs. So, do you need that crutch, or are you just going to go out and get them and commit to working on the real problem? – YOU.
Sometimes TheHusbandHalf and our local son, in the winter, will golf in HA, CA, without leaving Ohio – video. With nice clubs
