Another Cable Question
« on: May 03, 2014, 03:35:21 PM »
I'd like to cut cable television, however, I don't want to miss world cup this summer (and TdF).  Despite an embarrassing amount of time searching, I can't figure out if I will be able to watch those two things online live.  Anyone know how I might be able to do that?

And yes, I know I should man up and not watch those things or not watch them live....  but cutting cable already will require a fight with Mrs. Moomoo.   I'm afraid I will lose if my resolve isn't pure.

Thanks in advance

We don't have TV at all and I am seriously wondering what to do about the World Cup.  It looks like Univision will have an app to broadcast all of the matches via streaming.  I can't seem to find the name of the app for sure, but I think its Univision deportes.  I have no idea if there is any English content.

[Edit:  You can change the app to English once you create an account.  Sign up with email, password, username, birth date, and gender.  Then tap the settings button on you phone.  Tap "ajustes (settings)".  From there scroll to "applicacion" and click "seleccion de lenguaje."]

Also, for the big games, I plan on going to a local Irish Pub that plays ALL of the matches.  Also, they don't care if you just sit there and drink water, as long as you tip a little bit.  There might be a similar place in your neck of the woods.

Thanks!  I'll check that out.

Probably no pub... I live in the rural South. Although there are bars, getting them to put on soccer is probably going to be a challenge.

We watch 4 HD channels for free on our tv with a digital antenna that cost $20 bucks at Best Buy. The more mechanically inclined can easily make one out of scrap wood, coat hangers, and a cheap part from Best Buy. Directions are available online if you google "make a digital antenna."

If you check out http://www.tvfool.com you can punch in your address and see which channels you can tune in easily at your home's location with this simple antenna that plugs into the back of your tv. We are able to tune in all the playoff hockey games right now, and the FIFA games will be available as well, since they are already being advertised on the channel we are watching hockey on.

Digital reception OTA (over the air) is free and legal in both the USA and Canada!
