  Don't strip your bed."

Okay -- why is this a thing with some people (to not have guest help tidy room a bit before they leave?)

My mother taught me not to wash the bedsheets when the guest leaves, but rather just before the next one arrives. It saves washing twice for the nicest welcome for the next guest. They don't have guests very often and it saves the "fresh" bedsheets getting musty. They also have two cats, so would otherwise have to wash just before the next guest arrives anyway to deal with the cattiness.
Hmm,  I guess.
I just wash the linens and keep them in the closet, with just the bedspread on between guests.

I don't like doing that because it requires folding between uses ;) I'm in the "leave them on until before the next guest" camp. Then you don't have to fold, but you also don't have to wonder if you washed them yet or not. And no mustiness risk.

LOL!  If they are in the closet, the GD better be washed.   The cat on the bed point you made is a great one, though, I have been caught by that.

Haha, I meant if you remake the bed and aren't sure if you washed them yet or not... Ick, I sure hope no one folds dirty sheets!

I haven't read everyone's lists but one thing I had in my guest bathroom was a ring holder so when they wash up at night or shower, they have somewhere to not lose rings/jewelry. My family all really appreciated it.  I'm sure you could find one at a thrift store.

I once stayed with a friend, and as I was packing, she let the air out of the air mattress, leaving the sheets on it.  I looked at her quizzically and she said "I don't bother washing between guests - they only stay a night or two".

Because I don't want to have to stare at a naked bed.  I want it to look made until I"m ready to change the sheets.  When I have a few people stay with me and then have multiple towels and multiple sets of sheets to wash, it can take days to get through them all.   Looking at an ugly mattress (and having to stow the comforters while sheets are washing) is a pain.

Yup.  That, and "Well, you're staying here tonight.  Your brother is staying here tomorrow night.  Each of you is sleeping alone, fully clothed in pajamas, so your brother can stand sleeping on your once-used sheets."

Also, this talk of clocks reminds me:  Instructions for setting and fully turning off the alarm!

You mentioned soap... just to clarify, I would suggest a bottle of liquid body wash. That can stay in the shower and be used by multiple guests without anyone getting the heebie jeebies.

Wifi password. I leave it on a card in the guest room.

Shower cap.

Sufficient towels - most friends put out two towels, one for me and one for him. I have near-waist length hair, it needs its own towel.

Electric blanket if you live in a cold climate, fan if you live in a hot climate.

Oddly specific but first class airline pyjamas. My husband travels a lot so he requests them in a range of sizes and I put them (new in packet) in the spare room for guests. Our friends and family love them. Often mates will visit but forget to pack comfy clothes for a home movie night or whatever, so they are thrilled with their jammies and love taking them home.

One of those plastic scrubber poofy thingies, to go with the body wash.  What are those called?

I think a shower puff.  But I wonder if this is one of those words that could be regional?

Those things are bacteria nightmares =o I wouldn't want anyone sharing them! I'll stick with washcloths I think. I have a good stock of those luckily.

Good point on the body wash vs soap bar! Had forgotten about that.

Hmm, I should definitely invest in an electric blanket at some point. Hope Costco has them on sale around christmas, the usually do.

Here one is called a loofah.  The internet says the plural is "loofahs," but that sounds wrong.

place to hang towel inside guest room (hook? in closet?)

How about a door hinge hook? These take about 2 mins to install, are out of the way and are quite useful.
Something like this one https://ideamobility.com/independent-living-equipment/51-hinge-hook-pair.html
These are really good for robes etc,.

Also, for towels I prefer the over the door towel rack. Looks like this

If not already mentioned, get one of those folding racks (like in hotels/motels) for guests to put their suitcases on. My m-i-l had found one second-hand, and it was always folded in a guest bedroom. Very handy, and didn't take up space when folded.

Gotta laugh. Here's another reason not to change the sheets right away. DD and family dropped in for a surprise anniversary visit yesterday. I hadn't changed the sheets since last time they were here. Score!

This definitely is good motivation. It tends to be the same BIL that stays over for us (any time his gf babysits her niece, haha), so we do the same thing with him.

Just popping in a little late to say thanks for this thread. Lots of great ideas here. We'll be moving soon and hope to have a lot more guests than we have now. I especially like the "house rules" idea. We had an incident in which our dog got into a guest's chocolate. She's fine, but we learned a lesson. Now we simply ask guests to close the door when they're not in there.

So glad this could be of help to you! And even more glad your dog is okay!!! Yes, we had many guests around Christmas (3 weeks of Dec had guests total!), and my brother *assured* me they wouldn't leave food around- lo and behold, the third day they were here, Old Miss Dog proudly trots out with a hamburger. Lol. They kept the door closed after that =P

Here's another good reason to leave those sheets on, at least until you know your guests are really gone.  A couple of years ago, after visiting my parents, my flight was delayed. The next flight out wasn't till the following day. So I called them from the airport, and they were happy to have me for another 24 hours, but my mom was not happy that she had already taken the sheets off my bed! So now we joke about her practically watching my plane take off before she goes home and gets into her Type A cleaning mode.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
