Title: Amex Gold Rewards Card in Canada - need advice on how to get to minimum spend
Post by: Runny on December 26, 2015, 10:31:31 AM
I just signed my boyfriend up for the American Express Gold Rewards card. Now we need to spend $500 in the next three months to get the 25,000 reward points. I wanted to charge our home and car insurance to the card, but it turns out that our insurance company only takes Mastercard and Visa. Our grocery store also doesn't take Amex. Any advice on how we get to the $500 threshold without incurring any additional expenses? It seems like not a lot of stores accept Amex.

$500 of spend in 3 months shouldn't be difficult even for a Mustachian.  Here in the US, I could purchase a $500 VISA gift card for $4.95 and use it for groceries, etc.

If you shop at Amazon, you could purchase some Amazon gift cards for yourself.

Something along those lines should get you up to $500 spend fairly easily.

Take the time to call the gas stations around you as well as the grocery stores to see if they accept AMEX. If you do a bit of research it shouldn't be hard to find a location that you can shop to meet your goals.

I really like the prepaid visa gift card idea. Thanks for your advice!
