American Express Offer questions
« on: February 03, 2015, 02:56:06 PM »
So we got offers in the mail for $200 cash back and a year of Amazon Prime with $1000 of spending in the alloted time.  My wife and I both applied got cards.  We met the requirements for hers, got paid/amazon, and are in the process of meeting the hurdle on mine.  So she just got another offer in the mail for the same thing.  So I say, "Do it again"!  I guess we need to cancel the first one (all paid up) before we try again?

Is it for the same Amex card or a different one?  Check the fine print carefully - the terms of most (or maybe all?) Amex cards now make them unchurnable (i.e., you can't get the same benefit again once you've gotten it in the past).

Oh wow, I'd love that offer...I have 3 Amex cards though, so I doubt I'll get it (and I think I opted out of offers).

Yeah, usually there's a one-year waiting period. And often it's a once-per-household thing, so you might already be in violation of their terms!

You're lucky, though - I just got that same card with the same offer, but my latest offer is for 20,000 "points" and a year of Amazon Prime after *$2000* in purchases. No thanks!

Amex recently changed their terms from earning a bonus on a card from once a year to once in a lifetime.  So hope it was a good bonus on the product you got!

Best I've seen is 100k membership reward points on Amex Platinum.  Of course you needed to pony up $450 for the card.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
