Amazon boxes
« on: November 12, 2015, 03:28:06 PM »
What do you do with your Amazon boxes?  I put mine in the recycle bin, but am wondering if that is the best way to dispose of them.

Also, someone needs to tell their packers that if the item will fit in an envelope, it doesn't need to be shipped in a big ass box.

I recycle them or re-use them for shipping my own stuff.

This.  I'll also sometimes hold onto them to use for storage or organization.

Yep, I also reuse them to ship stuff out whether on ebay or Amazon marketplace (which they are perfect for haha). Ask my wife about our garage... she'll tell you all about it, then proceed to hound me to clean up all the freaking boxes I have piled up all over the place (note: most of this was from pre-Mustachian days; for those of you wanting to *facepunch* me)

I've given stacks away through my local Buy Nothing Group for people moving or selling items. Otherwise, I just recycle them.

I often sell stuff on Amazon that I'm not going to use anymore, so I just use them for shipping those items out.

I've been saving them with the intent of cutting them up and making a cat scratcher.

I put a FREE notice on Craigslist - there are tons of ebay sellers who can use them. I just cut my name/address and barcode off before sending them out the door. Easy-peasy porch pickup! The ad never stays up for more than a few hours, multiple people interested.

If they are big enough, I use them to put items in that I want to donate.  Then when they are full, I take them to the donation center and they get to deal with the box.

I save the smaller ones for giftwrapping and put the bigger ones in recycling or to store baby clothes that I hand-down to friends.

I put my recyclables into the boxes rather than plastic bags since I've heard plastic bags aren't great in recycling centers.  I don't know if this is actually any better though.

Otherwise, if I have a ton I'll put them on Free Cycle and they go quickly.  If I don't have a ton, I'll break them down and recycle them.

Corrugated cardboard can also be composted as an alternative to recycling.

Although, MMM would probably offer us all face punches for buying too many things from Amazon.

If it's something that you're going to buy anyway, I don't see why it matters.

It doesn't - that was my sarcastic humor showing, which doesn't translate well into forum posts.

if I don't need mulch or shredded browns for my compost, we burn them. A box is a great fire starter. I will usually keep them around for a couple of months to see if I have a use for them first – we don't get more than three or four a year aside from my Amazon points Christmas every year. The Christmas boxes already have a use, because that's how the presents get wrapped.

I save a few and recycle most of them. If they are big enough I let the kids/dog/cats play in them for a while until I can't stand the mess anymore.

I do wish they would look at small items and toss them in a padded envelope rather than a 16x16 box

The recycling center can get good money for the boxes, so help your local county/city by recycling.

I recycle them.
We only put cardboard out every few months, so in the meantime I dig through them for my own shipping needs.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
