Alternatives to MacMail?

Hi,
I own an early 2009 13” MacBook with OSX 10.9.4, 4 GB RAM,  and 256 GB hard drive. I use MacMail on my iPhone 4S, MacBook , and other computers to access email. I would like to identify a non-Apple, built in mail program that I can use on the MacBook and via a cloud in place of MacMail.  I wish to avoid using Google products. What do you all recommend?

I like Airmail. It's $10 on the app store.

Note that if mobile access is a must you will need to use another app, or stick with the web interface of your provider.
