Alternative sources of income for a resident?
« on: May 29, 2013, 01:03:02 PM »
I'll be starting peds residency soon and I'm looking for ways to increase my income, especially during my first year because 1) moonlighting is not allowed and 2) I want to get to work on paying down my student loans. I just recently discovered CashCrate and wanted to see what else you all do for side income.

It largely depends on your skills/hobbies/interests and what you are good at.

Not sure if this would be considered "moonlighting" but several nursing friends I know have opted to do some home care support in their spare time. This might be as simple as doing grocery shopping for a few other people while you are at it and dropping off groceries or making a schedule to help people in their homes for an hour or two a week - or doing the more specialized care if you are allowed to depending on your health laws. For the basic services they charge between 20-30 an hour here.
