Does airvoice have call forwarding? I am planing on getting airvoice $10/month plan and possibly a home phone via VOIPo. Should I port my current number to VOIPo and forward to my cellphone if needed OR port my number to airvoice and forward my cellphone to VOIPo when at home? How would this work with SMS? I plan using the LG neon i currently have, which i bought from ebay, under my AT&T contract. I think the LG neon is a prepaid AT&T phone, I just picked up to use when my previous cell phone broke. I probably could get by with the $10/month plan alone at my current talk and text usage. I was considering VOIPo as I was interested in possibly having better call quality while at home.

Airvoice only does call forwarding for per minute plans.
As for where to port your number, it depends on what you're trying to do and where you spend the bulk of your time. In general, though, it will cost far less per minute to do simultaneous ring from a VOIPo account to your Airvoice phone.
As for the SMS question, it depends on where you port your number to. For the sake of argument, if you port your current phone number to VOIPo, your texting will be from the new Airvoice number for the most part. That said, VOIPo does have SMS support, contact a sales rep.
You need to make sure your LG Neon is carrier unlocked before you leave AT&T.

I set up Google Voice as my "home" number and don't plan on texting from that number so I'm porting my cell to Airvoice. I will just forward the Google Voice to the cell if I want.
I.P. Daley, I can't remember where I saw it - somewhere on the Howard Forum I think - that since Airvoice also uses the AT&T network the phone doesn't actually have to be unlocked from AT&T.

Yes and no. Voice and SMS will work fine, but mobile data and MMS require an unlocked handset. Since he's already with AT&T and has a handset, even if he's going to Airvoice, it's worth getting the handset carrier unlocked first.

Thanks. This helps me out as well since I'm porting over from AT&T to Airvoice at the end of this month. I'll go through the unlock first then port over.

It looks like I have to insert another SIM card to verify that the phone is unlocked. Is this the only way to verify this?

If you can change your APN configuration settings, it's likely unlocked... though if you have to ask, it probably isn't. Just contact AT&T support and ask them to unlock the phone. You'll just have to provide them the IMEI.

A clean IMEI only means the phone hasn't been stolen, and has nothing to do with the status of carrier unlocking on the device itself.
