Advice/Thoughts on Retirement Plan
« on: October 10, 2016, 04:09:35 AM »
Hello All,
First time poster and relatively new convert to Mustachianism. So I thought I'd start by saying hello and asking a bit of advice if that's ok?

To my regret I had never really given my retirement any real detailed thought but after witnessing some family members struggling financially in their old age and my own struggle with the daily grind of office work I have eventually got round to doing something about it.

The Mr Money Mustache blog and this fantastic forum has influenced me greatly so if possible I would like to get your thoughts….

Minimum Goal
I’m 42 years old now and would like to be in position to retire at 60 with a fund which can generate at least £15,000 in today's money.

Workplace Pension
With Aegon - value £117,000 in Vanguard Life Strategy 80% equity fund.

Current contributions £600 per month. This will rise to £1400 per month in 7 years time (mortgage paid off)

We have 4 kids so any additional saving (Currently £250 p/m) are also being put into an ISA (same Vanguard fund) for their college education if they decide that is what they want.

I anticipate that we will be able to increase our monthly savings as we cut our monthly expenditure on some ‘luxury’ items

So – the point of the post – do you think retiring at 60 is an achievable goal in these circumstances?

Thank you!!

For the best advice fill out a case study template, I think there are instructions at the top of the ask a mustachian page.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
