Advice on moving to a cheaper rental house?
« on: October 07, 2017, 06:33:04 PM »
So Im currently renting a 3 bed 2 bath 2 car garage house for $405 per week. I live on my own other than when my girlfriend stays over on weekends. My sons dont stay over as much and never come together so its usually just one of them that stays over on a weeknight or one weekend a month or so.

My salary has increased so my child support is going to increase as soon s I do my tax return for this year..UGHHH

So I really need to move. Im looking at 3 bed 2 bath 2 car which average around $350 a week or 2 bed 1 bath 1 car which average around $300-$320 a week.
Whilst the 2 x 2 x 1 is the cheapest option I really need a 2 car garage as I have hammer lock shelving along both sides of the garage wall full of tools, my home brewing equipment, fermenting fridges, camping gear etc.
Or if I do get the 2x1x1 I need to make sure it has  a drive way so I can park the car in front of the garage. But then Im worried the harsh Ozzie weather will age my car sooner and therefore decrease its resale value ahead of time.

So what to do?

Where do you live that a three bedroom two bath house with 2 car garage is only $405 per month?  I'm so jealous haha.  How much would it cost you to move and is it worth the trouble for 50 bucks per month?  FWIW, I would keep the 2 car garage also.

I suggest looking at an overhead storage rack and minimizing your camping equipment, brewing equipment, and tools.

Each will be a sacred cow to someone here, but moving and storing these things are costing you not only $, but also heart beats (seconds of life).

Doh!  In that case, I would certainly go for the 2/1/1!  Be honest with yourself about how much of your stuff you actually use regularly and sell anything that you don't.  I look forward to the day we can downsize to a 2 bedroom house!

What do you mean by heart beats, seconds of life? Do you mean as in it’s not good to drink?

Problem with overhead storage is that it’s a rental so I can’t go drilling into walls etc.

I found a 2 bed 1 bath 2 car garage unit for only $330 a week.  I’m in Aus so it’s Ozzie dollars.

It’s 19 kms from work so further than the 10 kms I drive now but my car is a Toyota Aurion V6 so not too bad on fuel.  I Certainly won’t use more than the $75 a week I will save on rent.
