advice needed regarding family insurance through employer

I have the option to add my wife and my child to my  new employers family insurance which will cost me nothing out of my paycheck and it's a great plan with blue cross blue shield offering excellent health coverage.

But I also was thinking of leaving my wife on her employer's single insurance which cost $100 per month , but she has access to an HSA which we could max out in 2023.  Her insurance is not as good as mine but she is 31 years old and healthy.

Or I could just add my kid to my free family insurance and leave the wife on her employer's single insurance although it would cost $1200/yr simply because she could save $3500 per year in her HSA.

What kind of advice do you guys have to offer on this?

To clarify, would she have to fund the HSA?  If so, add the wife and child to your free, great insurance.  Put the money in some other savings, just as you would any money according to your investment plan---Roth, 529, whatever is next on your list.

If the employer would contribute the full $3500 the answer might be different, but I personally would always go for the excellent insurance.  Even a healthy 31 year old can need serious medical care, especially from an accident.

 I would recommend reviewing both plans and make sure that any therapies / prescriptions that the family currently uses, are covered equally.

We have a relative who switched out of an employer subsidized health plan, into a 'cheaper' option , then they found 1 of their medication costs went way up, more than the savings for switching plans, if they would not use the generic version thru the new insurer [ which they didn't want to ].

 

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
