Adopting a hypoallergenic dog
« on: January 28, 2015, 03:40:40 PM »
Funny arebelspy just started a thread on letting two cats go to a new home.  We lost our chihuahua/Japanese Chen a year ago - he was a rehome we shared with a neighbor (awesome adult dog).  Just last night we were looking at dogs because one if our children came home with a rescue fundraiser flyer.  Our middle son has allergies, but loves animals.  How do we go about finding a reputable that would have a dog that might match our criteria?  We are in the Chicago area.

Our local humane society did not have many animals at all.

We looked on one "rescue" site, got all excited about a Maltese dog, and then found out there were all these allegations against the facility for unhealthy animals.  They had a $650 adoption fee, which seemed high....The dog doesn't have to be a puppy either.

HUA.org in Nebraska is a huge rescue and they are awesome!  They do long distance adoptions too. They are very connected too so they probably know of great rescue groups closer to you. Just send them a message through their site.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
