Nothing wrong with a used gown.  There are plenty of sales around from trunk shows and at stores though.

Absolutely do not try on a dress outside your budget though. For real.  Dress regret is a real issue. I'm on a wedding forum and the number of women who struggle with this is absurdly high.

Secondly. There is nothing wrong with an expensive gown of you can afford it.  There is no reason to shame someone for purchasing a more expensive gown.

Have you been on this forum before? We have entire sub-forums dedicated shaming people for expensive purchases when less expensive ones would have been sufficient.

/But who gives a damn about the judge-pants internet people. Buy the dress you want.

Hi Diane C,

The wedding was fun and super casual, had our 3 sons as our wedding party and we had BBQ and cupcakes afterwards.  Now DH is retired and I'm no longer at risk of being called up myself.  We get to be civilians without all that hanging over our heads.  Been married now for 9 years, but still have this gorgeous wedding dress to give away.  Thinking I'm going to post a separate forum entry later tonight with an official offer to the MMM ladies...maybe I can make it a bit of a contest...

Sorry for the hijack OP!

Yes, used wedding dresses are awesome, especially if they come with stories :)
This is not a hijack at all! It adds a nice dimension to the discussion, attracts more people, who provide more ideas for the OP. Win-win!

It also moves your story onto page two, so it doesn't get buried. Heh heh, wink wink. They call 'em feel good stories for a reason.

my wedding dress was $60 on eBay.  donated it later to a local charity collecting used prom dresses (the dress was silver, not white).

my veil cost $0 since I didn't have one.

no regrets with any of it!

Costco!  Costco does/did trunk sales for wedding dresses.  I bought mine for $600 and then spent a couple hundred on alterations.  I then sold it via consignment to a bridal consignment shop and recouped the alteration costs.

I'm not sure where you are located, but in my city, we have at least one consignment shop dedicated to wedding dresses.
