Ruined Nonstick Saucepan?
« on: May 09, 2019, 09:48:18 AM »
I have one of these nice nonstick pans from my premustachian days: https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/ws-pro-ceramic-non-stick-plus-saucepan-2-qt/?pkey=csaucepans-sauciers&isx=0.0.552

Yesterday I forgot to turn off the range after making oatmeal.  When I got back from work, the house smelled foul and the remains of the oatmeal were burnt to a black crisp (but did not stick!)

Fortunately the burner was almost all the way to low.  But I put a couple drops of water in the pan.  It was hot enough to have the Leidenfrost Effect.  Manufacturer says the pan is good up to 600F, and visually the coating looks fine.

Think it's safe, or throw away?

I thought I was going to read something like you'd boiled old door hardware in the pan. (Yes, that ruins it for cooking).

I don't know any reason why an intact coating would be an issue. If you're worried about it, then why do you have a nonstick pan to be begin with?

It says the pan is ceramic not PTFE, so I would think it would be just fine.
