A Magical Fridge...
« on: December 06, 2018, 07:29:09 PM »
If you had a magical refrigerator, where one shelf ALWAYS had 5 items of your choice stocked and ready to go every time you opened it (you never had to purchase or replenish), what would your five items be?

1. Bag of mixed, pre-chopped veggies (kale etc)
2. Cottage cheese (this is new for me, but extends so many meals!)
3. Eggs (so handy, including for baking)
4. Cream

Hmmm... That's it, I think. Most ingredients I keep in the freezer or cupboard. Besides the above and a leftover, our fridge is usually near-empty.

1. A $100 US bill
2. Cheese (Parmigiano-Reggiano)
3. Limes
4. Greek Yogurt
5. Maple Syrup

...though I'd settle for a fridge that just had #1 replenished each time I opened it.

1.) Avocados
2.) A bag of mixed greens
3.) Raspberries
4.) Eggs
5.) Potato chips

No, I do not normally keep my potato chips in the fridge, but I would be willing to start if it meant they kept re-appearing after I ate them!

Assuming no animals are harmed in the opening of this fridge, I'd have to go all in on animal products:

1) bacon
2) prosciutto
3) aged cheddar
4) shrimp
5) porterhouse steak

Aw, I ran out of room for anchovies. Sorry anchovies, I'll still buy you on special occasions.

This would be hard for me.  In this moment in time I am dairy/soy/egg free for a nursing baby that is allergic and I will probably continue to avoid those things in solidarity, until/unless she outgrows them, but the rest of the house is not.  So stuff for me and baby would be different than the rest of the house and they (4 of them) obviously eat more than I do.

My shelf
Avocados
Hatch green chile/salsa
Bacon
Uncooked tortillas
Chicken

Everyone else's shelf
Bread
Milk
Cheese
Hamburger Meat
Apple Juice

I don't know if this prompted the inquiry, but as soon as I read the subject line I immediately thought of this old Superbowl Commercial:

Sorry for the off-topic, perhaps someone would be interested in a separate thread for favorite commercials, Superbowl or otherwise?

No kidding - just opening the fridge 3 times a day would yield over $100k/year. How do you report this income on your taxes?

Sticking to food:
1) mixed greens (spinach, chard, kale)
2) fruit (banana, pineapple, berries, stone fruit, oranges)
3) extra sharp cheddar cheese (not sure if it should be a block, sliced, or shredded)
4) eggs
5) bacon

So, the first time you get raided by the cops and they bust you for possession won't be so bad . . . but it's going to be hard to explain the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth time . . .

As far as my list, just all the expensive stuff.  Cheese, a meat of some sort, this local brand of yogurt that's amazing but through the roof, honey crisp apples, fresh berries.

Why would you want someone else to cook your bacon and lose out on the bacon aroma and rendered fat?

Someone I used to know said the perfect magic refrigerator would have back doors on each shelf and when you wanted to dispose of stuff you would just push it all to the back till it slid thru the doors and into a dumpster.

1) Norwegian "matfl°te", a fluid cream with 20% fat. I use this a lot in sauces.
2) Pepper and squash. These fit into many dishes.
3) Blue cheese. I love the taste in lots of (veggie) dishes.
4) Feta cheese. I love the taste in lots of (veggie) dishes.
5) Bottles of concentrated stock, in meat and fish flavour. Great to add a dash to sauces.

Outside the fridge, in a drawer, I always like to have these items:
1) Tins with chopped tomatoes
2) Tomato puree
3) Wraps (whole wheat)
4) Full-fat coconut milk
5) Kidney beans

Chocolate is also kept in a drawer outside the fridge. But I don't have it as a staple item.

Every six months - I'd like to find a plane ticket and a hotel reservation for two all paid for alternating with $10K in cash every six months.

1. Eggs - free ranging
2. Bread - wraps or dough selections - rotating:)
3. Cold cuts or cheese selections - rotating:)
4. Fresh fruits or veggie selections - seasonal. I'd also love to have fresh sweet corn on the cob and fresh watermelon all year long.
5. Butter

That's pretty much what I always have in my fridge now.

My true wishlist would include:

1. Wine from the Guntrum winery in Germany - France - Italy - Hungary
2. Lobster - fish
3. Homemade pasta - selection of filled shells/ravioli etc. - or - fresh French bread
4. Fleischwurst - (a ring of Bologna made by the best butcher)
5. Homemade batter/dough for pancakes-waffles-cake/pie incl. the best fruit - cheese - chocolate toppings

Reflecting - I'd say we already have most of that - interesting revelation. Maybe I should go for the $100 bill - I could do a lot of good with that for our family and a whole lot of strangers.
