70k - straight into VTSAX?
« on: January 18, 2018, 11:41:16 AM »
Just sold a house and decided to be a renter instead. I'll be getting 70,000 from the sale.

Age: 32
FIRE: 40 (if everything goes according to the plan)
Net worth with the 70,000: 200,000
Yearly living expenses: 25,000
Savings account: 10,000
Yearly salary: 110,000
Debt: 0

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

I'm a red panda

Per my asset allocation, it wouldn't all go to VTSAX, but i would split it between the 4 funds I have in my Vanguard portfolio.

I would dump it all into VTSAX - here's an article explaining why: http://awealthofcommonsense.com/2014/02/worlds-worst-market-timer/
As long as you have the cojones to hold it through the coming downturn (and it is coming! Just don't know exactly when), you'll come out fine on the other end.

I'm glad that the results are confirming what I planned to do with the money, makes me feel much better now.

$70k buys you a lot of H&B, that's my vote.
