Title: 20/80 shares or total dollars?

total merely mustache shadow question:

when folks talk about 80/20 stock/bond ratio, is that in terms of dollars or by # of shares?

so if i have $5000 do this with (like BND-20, VTI-60, VEU-20) do i make that split by dollar amount or share numbers?

on behalf of all noobs a little nervous to ask such basic questions,

It's a ratio of what your portfolio is in terms of value.

More directly to answer your question: dollar amount.
