Ok I am not that much of a wizard when it comes to electronic gadgets and I'm having a bit of a hard time finding the answer to this.

Currently we have 2 Airvoice phones on the $10 a month plan and the DSL (at their slowest speed) at $45 a month. I know Century link are way over charging me but there is not much competition where I live.

So can I tether a Republic phone (or similar) and get my internet reliably and at a similar speed?.. I.e use it to provide a Wifi signal to my laptop?

How much surfing is 5GB anyway.. do I need 3G or 4G?

Update..

I just tested my internet speed and got 1.3 MBps... According to the Ting site I should be able to get 6 to 8MBps with 4g LTE available in my area except my coverage is fair.. so maybe 1.3 is about all I'd get which would be fine.

Then I assume I need a device capable of generating a WIfi signal and then I's need a wifi card in my desktop as presumably I won't have any way of using an ethernet cable anymore as I only have a wifi modem that connects to the telephone line.
