Hello Mustachians,
I am going to Syracuse, NY for two nights March 10-12, and want to find a way to do it for free (minus gas prices). My original thought was to camp, but the only state park with campsites is closed until May.
Does anybody know of a way to make this trip free? Could I stay with any of you? Is there a building on campus (Syracuse U) that is open all night? I would be gone all day and just need a space at night. I would sleep on the streets if I weren't concerned about safety.
Thank you!

most dorms have a student lounge. This is where students sleep when their roomie has their girlfriend over for a 'visit'

You may not want to be outside at night with the weather in upstate NY lately anyway. -20F at night has been the norm as of late. That is part of why the parks are closed. And I would stay away from the streets as some of the areas near SU are not the best neighborhoods. (I grew up near Syracuse)
Maybe try couchsurfing.org? I have heard the site and community is really good. I have never used it myself though.

Thanks phred, thanks rugorak. The lows are supposed to be in the 20s or 10s according to the NWS, but I agree that couch surfing is a great answer; thanks for reminding me of that! I will find somebody easily I'm sure. Beats $100 for two nights at a hotel!

not that it helps with this trip but next one maybe? I keep a starwood card (rotating between business and personal to avoid yearly fee) for my trips since I can get a free room out of the sign up bonus. I'm only saying this because I saw people talking about air miles on other thread.
