Title: 1099 G?
Post by: VioletVixen on February 08, 2015, 12:42:31 PM
Does anyone know what to do with 1099 G forms? I got one last year (my State refund) and I reported it on Line 10 of the Federal 1040 (Taxable refunds). I have not received one yet this year and Turbo Tax did not even ask me about it, even though I did get a State refund for 2013 in 2014. Why did I not get a 1099 G? Should I be reporting the State refund on Line 10 as usual?

And why am I not required to consider the Federal refund as a "taxable refund" if I have to consider the State refund "taxable"?

You only need to report the state if you itemized last year, because last year you took that amount as a deduction on your federal taxes. If you didn't itemize you don't need it.

Thanks! I itemized in 2012 but not in 2013, so that makes sense.
