05 Prius in very good condition
« on: April 10, 2015, 06:26:13 PM »
I have an 07 Tundra that will be paid off this year. I commute 40 miles a day and saw this Prius posted locally and wanted to get your opinion on its value:

New tires, everything works perfectly - Toyota performed a full hybrid check and everything was great. All paperwork included.  Has 169,000 asking for $6,500

Looks like a reasonable deal, I think... I have an '05 and I love it.

how many miles do you have? that's my only concern is the miles. I drive 12,000 a year so nothing crazy.

How much of your commute is city (stop and go) vs highway?  While the Prius is reasonably efficient on the highway, it's not radically more efficient than most other small, somewhat aerodynamic cars on the highway.

Otherwise, looks reasonable enough.

I hear (read) that a lot, but I used a work Prius (maybe an '07?) for a trip from Boise to Lake Tahoe and got over 50 mpg.  Better than the much flimsier Honda FIT I had at the time, which averaged 39 mpg, and way better than say, a Camry or something.  Maybe compare it to a similar age/miles Corolla or Civic, and crunch the numbers on gas savings vs. potential need to replace or revamp the Prius battery, then decide.  Guessing you could get a 10 year old Civic with that many miles for more like $3500, and it could get about 38 mpg.

80/20  with 80% being 55 mph

the carfax on this thing has a million service records and free of accident which is nice. Still the hv battery is not cheap to replace if I'm doing that in a year which is why i am not sold on only a Hybrid

I currently drive an 07 Tundra and get 17 mpg...very rough on my wallet when gas was $4 a gallon

For that money, you could pick up a used Mazda2, and they'll turn an honest 40mpg if you're not doing 75+mph.  My wife & I could regularly get 45mpg doing longer road trips on state highways at 55-60mph.

I do suspect the Prius aerodynamics help at higher speeds, not that anyone in Seattle believes they can do more than 45...

I love the prius.. funny thing is that the higher speed you go the less mpg efficiency it has.. you will win having a prius if you commute 40miles a day

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
