No link to point to here, just anecdotal sources.
For those on a low information diet, Hostess just announced they are closing their doors.
I have seen many people on Facebook in reaction to this news either A) proudly showing photos of all the Hostess garbage they managed to go out and buy, or B) complaining that stores are already out of stock.

At least the end is near! Remember those twinkies will survive nuclear fallout. Maybe someday an archaeologist will be digging up the remains our our civilization and find a twinkie. I can only imagine the theories that would inspire regarding our untimely end.

Won't the recipes and IP just be sold? I have no clue, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not the end.

Dont get me wrong I eat healthy most of the time, but I'm sad to see these go. I think they taste good personally and would eat one occasionally.

I remember the chocolate cupcakes, two to a package. If they sat on the shelf long enough, the icing would get hard. The filling tasted a little like Crisco. But, hey, when you are 7 or 8, it's all good.

I'm 32 and I just tasted Twinkies for the first time this year. I finally got curious enough to pay $1 for a pack, part of my "do new things" challenge. I took a bite and nearly spit it out. Yuck! Hubby was happy to finish them. But my kids sniffed at them and turned them down. They don't smell like anything but grease. }:-P
I've been reading some speculation that the recipes/right to make the products will be sold and the hope is that the new owner will revert to a more natural product, similar to how they were originally made, to keep with the current healthier trend in food products. I can see how that might be successful. And I would try them again in that case. :D

Ah, the good ol' days of grade/jr high school, when I would indulge in a twinkie or hostess cupcake with nearly daily regularity.
Thankfully, although I always ate plenty of veggies growing up, I kicked the junk habit as I was finishing up high school. Had a Twinkie a number of years later (early/mid 2000s), and they did actually taste a little different. Perhaps taste buds change...but I'll swear that the yellow sponge cake didn't feel as soft, and the cream filling wasn't quite as fluffy and flavorful.

I stopped in a convenient store this morning and the hostess rack was full of hostess like items made by some company called Blue Bird. They may not be Hostess but these cakes will most likely be very present in our future.

He and his three kids stopped into a half-dozen stores, buying up every brand of Hostess snack cake.
He has dozens of boxes now in storage in his garage freezer.
“Last year we bought half a hog,” Bryant said. “This year we bought half a hostess store.”
Bryant is diabetic.
