I enjoy going to gambling resorts for vacations because I like to exploit their player reward systems without actually playing, so I also contribute on some discussion boards on the topic. There are people on there who brag about reaching Seven Stars status with Caesars Entertainment, which means they earned at least 125,000 tier credits. Players earn 1 tier credit per $5 put through a slot machine or per $10 put through a video poker machine (and much more per tier credit for table games.) That means, at a minimum, these people put $625,000 through a slot machine in a year to earn this status. Even if they were really lucky and this translated to only $200,000 in real money, that's a staggering amount of money to waste for bragging rights. It simply blows my mind.
Meanwhile, I got the Caesars credit card to get Platinum status for free (which is a 7500 tier credit value) and here I am spending absolutely nothing on gambling to still have all the fun of their resorts.
I will never understand people who brag about wasting huge amounts of money.
