Weddings on the Cheap - Warning!
« on: March 18, 2013, 05:07:30 PM »
A note of warning to anyone hosting a small, almost no cost wedding.   We got married at the city & county building for a very small sum.  I wanted to splurge on the $10 wedding bands offered by the city (as a joke) but was over ruled by my cost conscience husband to be.  Can't complain because we had two fully paid for Cartier wedding bands ready to go.  Our witnesses were another couple we had considered our best friends.  They brought a lovely bottle of champagne to the wedding breakfast held at the local dirty spoon and after the ceremony we took them to lunch.  When they ordered a very expensive bottle of wine I mistakenly thought they were buying that too.  So when they ordered a second bottle, I just smiled.  Silly me.  When the bill came - all $700 of it - they didn't lift a finger to pay for the wine.  To this day I've never gotten over the feeling that we were screwed over by people we considered to be good friends.

Sounds more like a problem with your friends than with inexpensive weddings. Sorry you ended up in that situation, nonetheless.
