Facebook helping us shop
« on: August 16, 2013, 09:50:02 AM »
Saw this in my twitter feed this morning, thought it was pretty funny...

Facebook is coming out with a service where you can store your cc info to "help with shopping"  hahahaha Thanks so much FB, because shopping is sooo inconvenient these days!

Uh, hello, I don't think the Western world needs help with shopping. I'm pretty sure we're experts at it.

We need a service that helps with not shopping.

They've been moving toward this for a while.  They already know your friends birthdays and what they like, so it's pretty easy for them to suggest "why don't you send them this gift".  They've got to justify that big IPO somehow.  Fortunately, all of our devices do have buttons right on them that help with not shopping.  The "off" button.

I actually do find re-entering my info online (shipping/billing/cc) a pain in the ass. So as long as its opt in and reasonably secure i don't think this is a bad idea.

Exercise that self discipline: don't buy more stuff ...  but why not make the existing experience better?

You should investigate https://lastpass.com/
It makes storing / using your passwords / form information a breeze, and is extremely secure. Personally I wouldn't trust facebook as far as I could throw them.
