Sports and activities for kids 10,000 a year.  This is unbelievably insane

I haven't read the article, so I don't know their children's activities, but I can believe it.  A friend of my DD's was into show jumping in high school.  Incredibly expensive, even living in a rural area.  Hockey is expensive at competitive levels, so is soccer, so is golf, so are Irish and Scottish dance.  We did Irish Dance on the cheap, spent hundreds every year, but could easily have spent thousands.
