Video: Work at all costs? What do you think?

2:30 - til about 6:30

What do you guys think?

With my new perspective on life, I think it's disgusting to encourage this.
Seems like a recipe for depression or some stress induced disease.

It depends on what drives him.  In the video he says he is launching a new company.  I've had my fair share of talks with entrepreneurs, almost everyone of them are married to their new business.  Everything takes a backseat.

They find their drive and desire in life by doing it so it's hard to turn it off.  Failure to be able to separate this from other aspects of life that are important; such as family and sleep for example, can lead to a break down in these other areas.

I don't really disagree with him.  Progress is made by those that are always doing something.

And his schedule is why I don't live like him. Simply different priorities.

I had a similar schedule a couple of periods in my life when I was younger. I got my ducks in a row and left for something with a better life/work balance.

The way I look at it is I want my marriage to be solid and I want to have a good relationship with my children for the ~20 years that we live together. In my mind that means some schedule fairly consistent and reasonable and me giving my employer a fair day's work with occasional projects that consume more of my time - but only occasionally.

I have side projects for me/us but I'm at home most of the time for those hours. No deadlines that I don't set for myself. If I want to go to a game with the kids or need to appear at a school function then I can b/c I'm not stuck in northern Mexico on a factory engineering project for a month or on the other side of the planet for six months as previous employers would have demanded for very ordinary salaries.

If an employer wanted all my time in exchange for a positively huge salary for a couple of years - I would have done it but my time with my wife and kids are very expensive hours. I don't give those hours away cheap. That huge salary would have been a means to an end (FIRE) and temporary.

What was the point of creating "free time" and "fun" categories?....he doesn't allocate any of his time to those.
