The worst commercial on television today
« on: June 25, 2013, 11:37:19 AM »
I bet most of you have seen this one.  It absolutely drives me up the wall.....  Here is how you can cram a whole helluva lot of Anti-Mustachian into 30 seconds

Two ladies are shopping in a store, they spot a great handbag and they just have to have it!

1)  Implies they already have seven other handbags at home....

Blonde haired lady summons her insurance agent Anthony and asks how much she recently saved on her insurance.  Anthony responds that she saved $150.  She exits stage left to buy the handbag.

2)  If the difference between your insurance rate is the difference between whether or not you can afford another handbag, don't buy another handbag....
3)  Ahhhhhh, impulse buying with "found money".  What better way to use it!

Asian lady then sings, hesitantly, "I don't have State Farm but insurance find me money"

4)  Why the hell are you shopping (for your 8th handbag) if you don't have money......

Then extemely creepy guy who looks like he has been arrested for child pornography appears with a dollar bill at the end of a fishing pole.  Asian lady ashamedly grabs at the paltry dollar and misses.

"Ohhhh, you gotta be a little quicker than that."

5)  Implies in a disturbing way what she would ashamedly do for $150....

Just awful on so many levels.  All in 30 seconds!

Sadly that is what most people would do with extra money. Most people, if they were walking down the street and a stranger handed them $50 would go and spend said $50, thinking that they deserve to, and that they aren't hurting themselves because they got extra money. That is why sales pick up in March and April and May, because people get their tax returns, and why sales were slower this year than previous years, because the tax returns were smaller than they had been.

Bear in mind that a TON Americans live paycheck to paycheck.

Ohhhhhh, I do know that, and that is why I loathe this commercial so much.  All it does is reinforce the notion that you should spend every extra cent you come across.

"At Eastern Motors, your job's your credit -- finance it all the way!"

Apparently they've enlisted this most recent actor to appear in their ads, who seemed like a respected actor but apparently needed some income:

Hybrid - I had the same revulsion reaction. Saved money = "fun" money! And, worse yet, it's explicitly targeting young people. Ack.

I absolutely hate that commercial!!!    And, well, all of them, actually.  *ahem*

Heard on my local radio station (like, every morning) a title loan company offering cash for your car title, then it cuts to a 'lucky customer' who just bragged how he spent it at the casino... and won!!!    WTF?

I hate that commercial!

I also hate the "I have an annuity but I need cash now" ones and the payday/title loan ones - everyone is driving fancy cars/SUVs but they don't have enough money for regular bills to the point that getting a title loan seems like a good idea? Um, yeah that's REALLY smart there. Sell the damn car and stop spending money you don't have whydoncha?
