Cards against humanity is digging a hole... holidayhole.com
Happy Black Friday everyone.
-
Are we going to post CAH here every black friday?
I mean, probably, right?
-
Over $62,000 donated to dig a hole.
Amazing.
-
Do cards against humanity do something with the money afterwards? like donate it or use it to give bonuses to staff or something?
Dont worry a bit more googling and I found out last year they donated the money to charities so I will assume that they will do the same again
-
I think it was back in 2013 that they raised prices by $5 for Black Friday.

Last year, sure.
This year... no. They spent it. To dig the hole.
:)

They actually addressed this once. The question was, "Why don't you donate the money?"
Their response was, "Why don't YOU donate the money?" But people love to throw money at stupid stuff, hence this hole.

The answer was even a bit better than this--it was "Why don't you donate the money? It's your money!"
Basically pointing out that the people spending it on CAH could instead be donating it. It was a thinker, and a laugh, for me.
(That second sentence I felt was worth enough to add this post, without it, it sounds almost like a knee-jerk reaction response that means nothing, with it, it points out that the people spending the money to dig a hole isn't actually them--it's the people who have the money to start with. Interesting.)

My father worked two jobs to throw money into the hole...

They even covered the marginal utility of more money - CAH tracked how long each dollar would extend dig time and it steadily decreased as the project went on.

Came here to look if somebody posted this already.
On the one hand, yes it is a perfect symbol of the rampant consumerism that is black Friday. On the other hand, people gave over 100.000 USD to dig a hole!! We live in strange times indeed.
On a side note, black Friday has now also landed on the shores of Belgium. First year it is a relative success and I have to admit I love it! We scored a nice deal on dish washer product (enough for a year) and some shaving supplies (good for another 6 months).

One hundred grand down the hole! I wonder if they will release the location. I'd guess not, as letting people near it is probably a liability risk. :)
-
Lol that's pretty funny, I wish they still had the live stream up... I might donate to the cause if I could see the hole.

It's really almost an infrastructure project. Get that money moving through the economy.
