And most of the complainypants comments blame the federal and provincial governments for household debt.  Typical.  Kind of like driving a Hummer everywhere and then complaining about climate change.

Or the price of gasoline. ALWAYS the evening news will interview some low MPG driver at a gas station when there is a sharp uptick in gas prices.

Why don't they ever interview the MMM style economy car driver at the other pump who says "what price increase? This is my second tank of fuel this quarter. The cost of fuel really isn't that big of a deal..."

If it bleeds it leads.
People click bad news headlines the same way they slow down for car crashes
Even people who this applies to look down on those people, because they have no savings because of the mortgage or the nanny or the child care costs etc.

Then you need to look at who paid for the story. The poll was conducted by the association of payroll processors, people whose business would halve if companies were allowed to pay their workers monthly.

ps. What is it with this 2week pay period in America?  And why do you still have checks ? And presuming it's due to your nostalgia for the past why don't you spell it properly ?

I don't know how people can live like that...the stress would be unbelievable.

And what happens when these financial wizards lose their jobs and can't find anything comparable as is the case more and more these days.  How many have to default on their debts before the economy tanks and housing bubbles burst all over the place?

The Globe and Mail had an article in yesterday's paper about the real estate flipping/juggling/bullshit that is going on in Vancouver and Toronto.  Millions of dollars in real estate is going through one beneficial owner but being made to look like there are many different owners.  The banks pretend that they don't know what is going on but what happens when this shithead and many like him decides to bail when the housing bubble bursts?  Plus the added bonus of these buggers aren't paying any taxes.

All very true. That's a point I was eager to teach my kids about the media when they were old enough. Just b/c the news says so doesn't mean it's true. Might be referencing a "study" funded by a company expecting to benefit from changing people's perceptions about something or another.

Teach your kids. I reached adulthood assuming the media was a trusted source of info. Nobody ever told me any different.

My wife has to priority mail a check to consultant every Friday. This guy makes over USD 150k in base salary, and his bonus is 100-200% of  that. I've suggested that the funds be direct-deposited or wired, otherwise she has to go to the post-office at 5pm on a Friday evening. She thinks there's something fishy as the checks are getting cashed at a non-bank location. Could be hiding funds from an ex-spouse, doesn't want to pay child support, etc. And he still has money issues, sometimes calls mid-week to ask if he can get paid early.

An old colleague posted an article about this study on Facebook with the caption, "I'm glad to know that I'm not alone!". Ugh. Girl is 25 years old, no dependants, no house, and granted, makes maybe 35k or 40k, but it's more than enough to not live paycheque to paycheque. Makes me sad.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
