While the Haiku's are fantastic, Sam Dogen isn't even Japanese. He claims to be Chinese American in this article.

Someone who has a Chinese background deliberately choosing a Japanese term as a large part of his online identity is interesting to say the least.  Not a student of history, apparently.

You never know, it could be an inside joke of some sort.
With the name Sam, I could see people cluelessly nicknaming him Samurai just because he's asain and having it stick.

Could you elaborate?

It's next-level cultural appropriation. Post-WWII it's about on par with a gay Polish Jew pretending to be German. Long story short: Japan invaded China and did bad things that make Mengele look like Mickey Mouse. It does make the haiku even worse.

Turtle of the Wind,
Who's not even Japanese,
Falls... upon his sword.

I can't put that into a proper Japanese haiku because the negation verb takes up six syllables. Won't fit. Sorry.

I sense a great disturbance in the Force.

The haiku floodgates have been opened, and there's about to be a torrent of snark.

Edited to add:
I throw shade on bad advice;
That makes me racist.

I bow down in shame at my unworthiness to participate in the humor of this group.  LOL

I wish he'd have responded to the trolling comment with a reply on the subject instead of taking that to say "haters gonna hate, and they are racist."

I'd be all about hearing his experience of living in different Asian countries, where there's also racism, and how he might have felt it compared to being surrounded by other races. Is it different? Is it better or worse?

Sam's model major-
ity stereotypes are
Racist and harmful

(Read his article
Towards those not White or Asian
It's racist as fuck)

(Srsly it's too much to fit in a haiku but he's pretty much saying all the other groups deserve to have a higher racial wealth gap because they dont work as hard, and even implies that there is nothing wrong with the fact that he did have to work twice as hard as white kids. He doesn't even mention systemic wealth inequality, or the fact that we should do something to eliminate the gap. He also totally ignores some Asian ethnic groups that haven't done as well. I'm really surprised that Forbes published it. It's sad that he experienced racism from the white kids but he's perpetuating it onto anyone that's not white or Asian instead of trying to fix it)

FS mistakenly equates all Asians to be same/similar. There's data and studies showing Asian wealth gaps, Vietnamese being at the lower end. In a similar sense, Indian vs Bangladeshi.
Also, Forbes is utter shite; they'll publish anything that gets eyeballs.
"Just because I suffered doesn't mean others have to." - Help address/fix the problem instead of perpetuating it.
Fucking Simp. That's what he is.

Having had someone from Taiwan live in my home for about 7 months, and having completed a college program with the majority of my classmates being from China, South Korea and Taiwan, I was really surprised when he was saying how he lived in China, as though it was just a great place for the non-Chinese. Hopefully he had a positive experience, but a good friend who served in the Peace Corps over in the mainland, then stayed to work, would doubt it.
