Title: Suspicious of Health Insurance
Post by: Chrissy on September 19, 2014, 12:45:00 PM
About 10 years back, I found out my roommate's health insurance had just expired.  I urged her to get a new plan right away.  She said, "I don't know.  I'm suspicious of health insurance.  I mean, the only time I've ever needed it was when I HAD it!"

I almost slapped her.

Today, she does have a good job AND health insurance.

It is as if the ACA was specifically designed for FIRE people.   The premium and tax credit is based  entirely on income without regard to assets.   Thank the rich folk and uncle sam for that!

So, If we take 24,000 a year in income (which is realistic for us)   Our total annual Silver level premium would be $480 for a family of 3.  Probably a bit more as we would select the gold plan most likely.

So people with significant stock and real estate assets can qualify for subsidized health insurance if they are frugal on taking income and don't rely on dividend stocks.  While working stiffs are paying full bore.

Nice!
